The English Service China Radio International: "Beautiful Guangxi" Knowledge Contest

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in southern China. To introduce this beautiful region to CRI listeners, CRI and the Guangxi Tourism Administration are sponsoring a five-part general knowledge contest on Guangxi.

There are ten questions in the quiz, with each of them having only one correct answer. CRI will present three types of awards to the winners. Each winner will receive a certificate and a special gift. Ten top prize winners will who a free 10-day trip to Guangxi at the end of the year.

Radio Romania International: THE DANUBE DELTA Contest

The Delta is one of the most scenic regions in Romania and Europe, boasting a varied flora and fauna. It was formed between the three arms of the Danube: Chilia, Sulina and Sf. Gheorghe. Sulina is the easternmost town of Romania, located in the Danube Delta.

Radio Romania International (RRI) invite you to listen to RRI’s programmes and access the website at www.rri.ro to find out the correct answers to these questions; thus you can be the lucky winner of the contest. RRI will be waiting for your answers by September 30th 2008, the post date.

The Danube Delta was declared a Biosphere Reserve in August 1990; previously parts of the Delta had been declared nature reserves. Letea forest, with its strangely-shaped oak trees which grow on sandy soil, was declared a nature reserve in 1938. In 1972 it was the Rosca-Buhaiova area that was declared a nature reserve due to the pelican colony that had settled there.
The Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve, which is included in the UNESCO heritage list, also comprises the Razim-Sinoe lagoons, and it spans 580 thousand hectares.
This year, there will be two Grand Prizes, each consisting of a 9 day stay for 2 people with full boarding for next summer at a time that will be agreed on by winners and sponsors. The winners of the grand prizes will be accommodated in several locations in Tulcea county and the Danube Delta, including floating hotels. The contest is sponsored by the Cormoran Compound in Uzlina (www.cormoran.ro), Eurodelta Travel (www.eurodelta.ro), Finesse Travel & Explore (www.finesse.ro) and the Delta Hotel in Tulcea (www.deltahotelro.com) . As usual, travel fares from your country of origin to Romania and back as well as visa expenses (if the case may be) are not covered by RRI. Apart from the two grand prizes, you will have the opportunity to win lots of smaller prizes related to the Delta and Tulcea county, offered by our partners.
In the Danube Delta you can find the largest reeded area on the planet that covers 1,560 square kilometers, and 331 bird species, 9 of which have been declared unique species. The Delta is home to the largest pelican population in Europe (almost 8 thousand pelicans), to 60% of the world’s Pygmy Cormorant population and to 50% of the world’s Red-breasted Goose population.
In the Delta you can also discover rare birds such as the White-tailed Eagle or the Saker Falcon. Of the more than 300 bird species, 70 have come from other continents. Some of the Delta’s attractions are: the Dalmatian Pelican, the 'Eurasian' Spoonbill, the Great Egret, the Little Egret, the Mute Swan, the Whooper Swan, the Black-winged Stilt and the Ruddy Shelduck.

Radio Romania International: THE FASCINATION OF RADIO LISTENING Contest

Radio Romania International (RRI) are inviting you to write an essay on the topic “Why are you listening to the radio? Why are you listening to RRI? and send it by snail mail, fax, e-mail or you can fill in the form attached to the contest announcement on our website. Depending on how interesting, complex and though-provoking your essays are, you can win an interesting prize.

There will be many substantial prizes and smaller prizes consisting in arts objects related to Romania and the Romanian culture and also to the public radio. This contest is taking place the very year when, on November 1st, Radio Romania celebrates 80 years of Romanian broadcasting.

Furthermore, the most interesting essays will be quoted in RRI’s Sunday’s programs aired on November 2nd, more precisely on Listeners’ Day.

The contest is sponsored by SC Rombat SA from Bistrita, in northern Romania, and is being supported by the Agency for Government Strategies.

Radio Prague Competition 2008 Winner

This year's Radio Prague Competition asked you to answer the following question:
Which Czech sportsperson or team has particularly impressed you?
The deadline was June 13 , 2008 and Radio Prague received a great many entries. Two finalists were selected from the mailbags received by each of Radio Pague’s six language sections, along with eight other particularly interesting entries. All ten will receive a special prize.

The overall winner of the 2008 Radio Prague competition is Jörg Teuschl from Germany,
The first prize, a week-long stay for two in Prague, is sponsored by OREA HOTELS, one of the biggest hotel chains in the Czech Republic.

Kang Guru Radio English 2008 Writing Competition Winners

Hundreds of entries have been received from all over Indonesia for this year's Kang Guru Writing Competition. "Sport is very, very important".
The Grand Winner is Amanatun Hasanah from Gresik, East Java, Indonesia.
The two runner up entries are from Reem from Pamekasan, Madura, Indonesia and Helmi Wattimury from Sorong, West Papua, Indonesia.

All three winners will be visiting Bali later this year as part of their prize.

RSI will end transmission on July 31

The Media Monitoring Club and all the SW radio listeners are sorrowful upper would the closure of the shortwave broadcast of RSI. This is a failure of the listeners clubs as a listeners' motivator to active and dedicated in shortwave radio. After the closing of the broadcast of Indonesian service of Radio Veritas Asia, and the closing of several language broadcasts in Radio Japan NHK World, and Radio Singapore International will end transmission on July 31.
Although, that is decisive of RSI, listeners only assets, not the owner and policy makers.
Mediacorp consideration as the main of RSI does not see the effectiveness of the Shortwave radio broadcast has diminished over time, with changing technology and media consumption habits.

DW-TV via TVU Networks

Since May 15th, DW-TV can be seen on the worldwide p2p TV platform "TVU", live and around the clock.
This platform offers about 300 TV-channels and can be used by everyone. The only prerequisite is a PC, a DSL-connection and the downloaded software "TVU player" (to be had free of charge) . TVU-networks
is currently being used by 12 million users in 200 countries.

It is especially gratifying that Internet users in China now have the opportunity to watch DW-TV.
However, for licence reasons, reception of TVU is not possible in the USA.

Radio Veritas Asia is a non-stock, non-profit organization tasked to "proclaim the message of God's love to the peoples of Asia. RVA is committed to proclaim the message of God's love to the people of Asia by producing human development and Catholic evangelization programs, in cooperation with recognized production centers and transmitting these programs via short-wave and related means of electronic media.

RVA broadcasts daily from 2100 to 0330 UTC on different frequencies from 19 to 49 meter bands in two simultaneous transmissions. The programs aired are produced both in the Fairview studios in Quezon City, Philippines and in the target area production centers. Pursuing its two-fold objective of Evangelization and Human Development, RVA communicates with 21 countries in Asia in 17 languages.

Radio Japan NHK’s Listeners Audience

Preparations.

Several years ago (1-2 years ago) was held The Audience listeners Radio Japan NHK World in Surabaya that was attended by approximately 40 people (according to information that we received). Editorial staff and several colleagues in South Sulawesi and surrounding area (the East Territory) could not come to because the distance of the location of listeners audience (possibly was caused by the activity factor and most of them, certainly the fund factor). We, several listeners and the club that was spread at the east of Indonesia, always felt was ignored if the location election of listeners audience was done by international radio stations if they will carry out listeners audience. always proposed that very much-time listeners audience was held in Makassar. And just the wish to become the host listeners audience got the fresh wind when the Producer of Radio Japan NHK World, Ms. Tomoko Yoshihara emailed to editorial staff that the big listeners audience possibility will be held in Makassar.

As the preparations stage, editorial staff of MMC afterwards contact all the available radio listeners in his phonebook, amount of 100 people contact through the SMS (Short Message Service), 14 people among them that register himself, including from Broadcast the Club Monitor (Abd.Wahab Al-Bilal) from West Sulawesi. Considering that the number of participants that register through the SMS only 14 people, is increased by 12 people from Listeners Club Radio (RLC) Makasssar, then we Advertised in the Tribun Timur Daily Newspaper from February 27 to March 11 2008. From the advertisement that we published, then we received 28 people that registered, so the number of whole that register through us have 42 people, is increased by 12 people from RLC, and the rest registered direct to NHK World.

The place/Implementation Time:

Pantai Gapura Restaurant, Jl. Pasar Ikan Makassar, (12.15 WITA until 16.00 WITA).

The number of participants: participants who are present numbering around 80 people who come from Mamuju, Polman, Pare-pare, NTT(Nusa Tenggara Timur), Tomohon, Gowa and Makassar.

1. The opening ceremony by Ms. Lily Yulianty

2. The introduction about Japan.

3. The introduction with the Producer, the Announcer, and the Staff Radio Japan NHK World.

4. The quizzes.

Media Monitoring Club Profile.

BACK GROUND.
The founder of this listeners club has been listening to the shortwave radio stations since 1996, then became Program Monitor for Radio Japan NHK World since 2001, Technical Monitor for KBS World Radio (Radio Korea International) since 2002, Radio Taiwan International since 2004, and Deutsche Welle since 2005.
After listening to the shortwave radio stations over nine years long, the founder of this listeners club have friends more than 400 persons. The founder thinks that if the 400 persons organized by one organization, then this club will be a big community.
One of the background establishments of the club is considering that in the globalization era of information, information could be reach very quickly whenever wherever we are; meanwhile shortwave radio listeners still more, because through shortwave radio we could receive information from various parts of the world quickly and cheaply.
We make an effort so that the shortwave radios continue to exist. The existence of shortwave radio that definitely was supported by the quite decisive factor, that is listeners. Without listeners, the shortwave radio will not exist.
We try to found/establish this club to gather members from readers, listeners, viewers and netter of media so that the media communication specially shortwave radio still exist to increase our knowledge and serve us information from all of viewpoint.
And, considering that many friends agreed, and then we establish Media Monitoring Club.

THE PRINCIPLE OF MEDIA MONITORING CLUB.
Help each other in the difficulty and keep each other in the way of truth.

MOTTO
Media Monitoring, Business Information, and Friendship Relations.

THE AIM OF MEDIA MONITORING CLUB:
1. To share information about shortwave radio.
2. To share information about various things.
3. To share information about business or to make business network.
4. As interpersonal connecting bridge listeners, between listeners and international radio, and between international radio and national radio.

NUMBER OF MEMBERS:
103 members from Indonesia, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Oman.

CLUB ACTIVITIES.
1. Active in member recruitment.
2. Each member will introduce by us to all international radio to be recommended so that they could be sent the program/broadcast schedule, brochure, souvenir, and other. And the reverse, we will give them the addition of information about international radio.
3. Since July 2006, we published bulletin each month to give members additional information about media, business, and pen pal.

1. Listener’s audience with Enny Wibowo from Radio Australia on November 29, 2005 in Jl. Galangan Kapal I No. 20 Makassar Indonesia.
2. Design logo of Media Monitoring Club Contest from February 1, 2006 to March 30, 2006 for the occasion of 1st anniversary of Media Monitoring Club.
3. Polling: The favorite radio station from February 1, 2007 to March 30, 2007 for the occasion of 2nd anniversary of Media Monitoring Club.
4. Discussion group with Trevor Harrison from Asianstrategies.com Australia, organized by Taylor Nelson Sofres on July 8, 2007 in Makassar Golden Hotel.
5. Polling: The best shortwave frequency, from February 1, 2008 to Marc 30, 2008 for the occasion of 3rd anniversary of Media Monitoring Club.
